Optimizing Keywords And Phrases For Your Website

When designing and optimizing your website the most import tasks you will have to make is deciding on which keywords to target on any given page. Optimize each page on your site individually. Your web pages have to stand alone when ranking for keywords on that particular page. By optimizing keywords on each web page this allows your site to bring in more visitors on many different keywords and phrases. Your home page only optimizes a few keywords. By optimizing each page in your site with individual keywords and phrases you take advantage of bring in more visitors to your site.

When designing your website do not copy and paste the content to another page. Take the time to create each new page from scratch. By creating each page enables you to optimize the page for keywords you are targeting. You need to take advantage of the potential traffic your site receives by having many ‘doorways’ into your site.

When deciding on the keywords for your site do not choose popular terms used by many other websites. Using popular keywords such as music, merchandising, or cars limits the traffic to your site. Many other website uses these keywords and your site will have to compete with the well established sites.

Reason to not using popular terms:

  1. Using broad keywords such as music for your web site will attract generic traffic. If your website is about Country music choose words that identify your website. Using the keyword music will draw visitors who are not interested in Country music. They will leave your site and search for a site that fits their interests.
  2. Popular keywords have too much competition. You will find it difficult to achieve high ranking with search engines. General and popular term keywords already have millions of websites using them.
  3. Using popular keywords involves too much time and effort. All of your time and effort will be spent on trying to rank in the top 25 listing. Once you reach this position, your time will be spent on staying in the top 25 listing.

Researching for your keywords

Search for keywords that are popular and used in a search by a lot of people. Second use keywords that have a little competition. It is much easier to achieve higher ranking when you target keywords that have little competition. 

The key when choosing your keywords is to find keywords that your potential customers are searching for. Research the keywords your competitors are optimizing and optimize different keywords on your website.
