Twitter Bird Takes a Small Nosedive
Twitter has recently been the protagonist of some bad news: the social networking site was discovered to be lagging when it came to its timeline views, which is an important measure for advertisers. But that's not the only thing that has gone wrong…
- Slow Flight
There has also been a slow user growth for the Twitter site, and this occurred just as Twitter was rushing in with some changes. Its mobile apps and websites were redesigned, and there were also image as well as video previews available on tweets, making for a much more comfortable Twitter experience because it prevents users from having to click on external links to view media. Twitter had its eye on achieving more with these reconstructions than just happier tweeters: it was focused on improving engagement. This, an important foundation, helps advertisers gain information that can enhance their business, such as what content of theirs is favorited, retweeted and commented on.
- Pecking Order
When it comes to digital advertisements, Twitter still doesn’t seem to be on the same page (if you’ll pardon the pun) as rival networking site Facebook. Twitter accounted for 0.5 per cent of global ad revenue in 2013, according to eMarketer, which is quite low when compared to Facebook’s 5.7 per cent. These differences will need to be taken into account.
- Future Changes
Perhaps even more changes are required by Twitter to help make the networking site more appealing to new users as well as more interactive. Some of these could include an alternative option to the chronological timeline that is currently on the site. Such a change would make for more organized content for users. Twitter CEO Dirk Costolo has hinted at these changes in the near future, but warned that the company will conduct extensive research before taking action to increase user growth.
