Understanding the Design Elements of a Good Blog

A blog site essentially uses the same design techniques and elements as a website. However, the posts on a blog are displayed in an online journal format. When a person visits the blog, they view the entries in a reverse chronological order. A blog site demands the same attention as a website. Therefore, the design elements, colors, page layout and fonts play an important role when designing your blog. It’s important to understand some of the basic design elements for your blog site.

  1. Color – The colors you select for your blog are important. They should reflect the colors of your business and portray your brand image. There are many options for designing your blog. You can use a solid color, pictures, or textures for your background. However, when selecting your colors it is pertinent that you pay close attention to them. Bright, garish colors are harsh on the eye and can destroy your brand image.
  2. Page Layout – When selecting your page layout pay close attention to the message you want to portray. Your page should be laid out in such a fashion that it’s appealing to the visitor. Your layout needs to suit your company and brand image. Finally, your page layout needs a logical order that is easy for your visitors to follow.
  3. Fonts – There are many possibilities for selecting a font for your blog. The different options include font type, text size and color. Select a font that works well with your color scheme and page layout. However, it’s best to select a common font type for your blog. This makes it easier for your visitors to read your message. Also pay close attention to the size of your text. Select a text size that fits your targeted audience. Don’t use a colored text that’s hard to read. For readability and clarity, it’s best to use a black text instead of a colored text.
  4. Advertisements – When designing your blog, it’s important to decide if you want advertisements on your blog. If you chose to include advertisement it’s important to decide on where to place them. The advertisements can be displayed in various locations on your blog. You can choose to use a discrete or obvious placement of the ads on your page. In addition, you have the options of custom designing your advertisements

In Conclusion

There are four basic design elements to consider when creating your blog. Each element plays an important role in the success or failure of your blog. Therefore, it is necessary to choose your colors, page layout, font, the font color and advertisement placement carefully. Keep in mind your brand and the image your company wants to portray to your customers.
